Sampo Internet Bank is a secure environment but only with cooperation between the bank and the client. In order to maintain security the client should keep to the following requirements.
- Protect Your user name, password and codes
- Set reasonable transaction limits
- Protect the computer and its software
- Log out from the internet bank
Protect Your user name, password and codes
The Sampo Internet Bank user name, password and codes must be protected from third persons. Do not write Your user name or password on the code card / PIN-calculator or anywhere else where someone else might find them or guess what they are. We advise You to keep the code card or PIN-calculator separately from Your daily accessories (e.g. wallet, notebook).
Do not give Your password or codes to family members or friends. You can authorise a family member or friend to have access to Your account. In this case they will be given a separate user name and personalised security codes – You can set them their own user rights and transaction limits. In this way, it is easy to identify in each case the person making the transactions in the internet bank.
Do not trust e-mails that request Your internet bank identification or codes. The bank never asks You to return passwords or codes that have already been issued; most likely this is a case of phishing (when junk mail is being sent to You in the hope of convincing You to give up confidential information).
If You have lost Your user name, password or codes – or fear that they may have become known to a third person – please block the use of the internet bank immediately. Set reasonable transaction limits
Upon making the internet bank contract You are required to set the maximum daily and weekly limits on Your internet bank transactions. By setting these limits You minimise the damage should a stranger gain access to Your accounts. We recommend that You set limits in line with Your daily and weekly needs. You can change the transaction limits at Sampo outlets.
Protect the computer and its software
The spread of viruses and spyware can pose serious security risks. In order to prevent third persons from gaining access to confidential and personal data, Your computer should be equipped with the following:
- Antivirus software. We recommend the following antivirus tools: F-Secure, McAfee, Symantec, Kaspersky, TrendMicro, AdAware and PestPatrol.
- Personal firewall. A firewall is a filter between Your computer and the internet that prevents malicious or alien programs from connecting to Your computer. Firewalls are especially important for laptops and for internet connections with no filtering by the service provider. Zone Labs offers a free ZoneAlarm firewall for personal use.
Log out from the internet bank
To leave the internet bank securely, press “log out” and close the browser window.
