Bank cheque
Bank cheque is a monetary instrument that provides an alternative to cash and bank transactions. Using bank cheques is not very common in Estonia. Bank cheques are most often engaged in paying foreign bills, such as for newspaper or magazine orders, participation fees for job trainings and fairs.
Bank cheque is an appropriate means to pay
- small amounts of money
- when You do not know the account details of the beneficiary
Bank cheques are issued and collected by most banks in the world.
Buying a cheque
- Fill out the application form, note the correct name and address of the beneficiary and submit the application to the bank. Issuing a cheque usually takes 1-2 business days, so we recommend you to order the cheque through Sampo Telephone Bank or Internet Bank.
- The amount and the service fee will be debited from your account before the cheque is issued. When you submit the cheque application at a Sampo office, it is also possible to pay in cash.
- Take the cheque to the beneficiary of the payment. In case you have ordered the mailing of the cheque, we will send it directly to the beneficiary.
Sampo Pank issues Deutsche Bank AG’s and Deutsche Bank Trust Company’s commercial cheques.
Collecting a cheque
- Bank cheques are accepted for collection only, i.e. you will not receive the money when the cheque is displayed but in 2-5 weeks when the foreign bank has confirmed the validity of the cheque.
- Bank cheques are accepted for collection only from the person or company to whom the cheque is issued or transferred.
- The person submitting the cheque for collection must be a client of Sampo Pank.
- Sampo Pank service fee will be debited from your account before the cheque is cashed. The service fees of foreign banks will be paid after the cheque has been deemed valid; usually they are deducted from the amount on the cheque.
Bank cheques are accepted in Tallinn at Ahtri outlet, Kristiine Keskuse outlet, Järve Selveri outlet, Lasnamäe Centrum outlet, in Tartu at Ülikooli St outlet and at our Jõhvi, Rakvere, Narva Fama and Pärnu outlets.
