Encrypted connection
The connection between Your computer and Sampo Internet Bank is secured by the Verisign SSL-protocol (Secure Sockets Layer Protocol). SSL encodes the information exchange between the bank and the client, all but ruling out any chance of ”eavesdropping”. According to RSA Labs, breaking the encrypted code directly would take – even when using contemporary technology – about one billion years. The only threat to the connection is posed by the security holes of the web browser.
Encrypted connection can be recognised by (a) the padlock sign in the bottom corner of the browser window, (b) the https:// beginning of the web address, instead of the standard http://. You can verify the security of the connection by clicking on the padlock. This opens the Sampo Internet Bank certificate. The certificate has been issued by the international certification company Thawte SGC CA; it must be issued to the web address www2.sampopank.ee and from the web address www.thawte.com.
When these conditions are met, it is safe to use the internet bank. When the certificate data is different, contact Sampo Pank immediately by calling +372 6 800 800.
User name, password, codes
There are three security checks when entering Sampo Internet Bank – You are required to insert the right user name, correct password and correct code.
- The internet bank user name is given to You when signing the internet bank contract. It is a permanent identification, which can only be changed at a Sampo Pank office.
- A temporary password is also given to You when signing the internet bank contract. It must be changed when first entering the internet bank and altered regularly from there on.
- The internet bank codes are stored on a special code card or in the PIN-calculator. At the beginning of each internet bank session, You will be asked to insert one of them.
Both Your user name, password and codes are secret and known only by You. Please read the instructions on their proper maintenance, in order to minimise the risk of using the internet bank.
Session expiry
When a certain time has passed without any actions in the internet bank, it is locked for use. You are required to log in again to perform new actions.
Blocking user
After inserting the wrong password or code three times, the user is prevented from entering the internet bank. To cancel the block, the user must turn to a Sampo Pank office with an identification document.
